ABY (American Baptist Youth) MINISTRIES

The youth program at First Baptist is a vibrant and active ministry that explores many different opportunities for growth and service.  Our youth ministry is headed up by Pastor Matt Sturtevant along with a committed team of parents and lay leaders.

Below are a few brief descriptions of some of the aspects of our youth ministry.  It is not, however, a comprehensive list and does not represent everything that our wonderful teenagers are involved with here at First Baptist.  Some of our youth serve on the church’s tech team, others help with child care, others volunteer in the church office, and many are involved in our music program.

Sunday Night ABY activities.  During the school year, September-May, our teenagers gather at the church on Sunday nights for a variety of activities, discussions, and Bible studies.  The Sunday night ABY schedule includes bell and vocal choirs (for those who wish to participate), a study & discussion time for middle-school and high school (separately), and a light supper served by parents.  For more details, contact Pastor Matt.

Summer ABY activities.  Because many of the families in our church are close knit and value rest and relaxation together during the summer, our schedule looks a little different during May – August.  During these summer months, we usually plan a lot of events and outings to give our group a chance to grow and be together.  We attend concerts, go swimming, etc.

MISSIONS-U.  Missions-U is a program of practical ministry application that happens several months during the school year.  Teenagers have the opportunity to choose a “track” to participate in that is aimed at putting practical skills and work to use for the kingdom of God, as well as discussing hot topics that are relevant to what they’re facing.  The Missions-U tracks are led by pastors, parents, church leaders, and sometimes community volunteers.

Puppeteens.  Our church has a puppet ministry that some of our teenagers participate in.  The Puppeteens perform for special events in our church as well as in the community.  For more information on this ministry, contact Robynn Tolbert at 233-8816.

Passport Camps.  Each summer, many of our teenagers go to a “Passport Camp” which is a well-attended, high energy, week-long camp for young people.  It is a full and inspiring week of Bible study, crazy games, and practical service opportunities.  For more information, contact Pastor Matt.

Green Lake Music Conference.  This is another week-long event attended by many of our youth who participate in the bell and vocal choirs.  They travel to beautiful Green Lake, WI for a time of fun, relaxing, and enhancing their musical skills.  Contact Pastor Matt.
